A movie about chasing your dreams and passion. Gully Boy highlights rap gangs from the underbelly of Mumbai. Zoya Akhtar has woven this story with the great thoughts around the life of rapper’s Naezy and Divine from slums of Mumbai. Ranveer Singh and Aila Bhatt’s performances are top notch. Overall entire star cast has given their best effort in this movie. The good part of Zoya’s treatment in the movie is that not a single actor is shown as larger than life which is the movie’s big plus point. The new entrant Sidhant Chaturvedi as “Sher” has really acted well in his debut movie.

The topic chosen by Zoya Akhtar to depict the life of rapper through many of the rap performances might have not connected well with the audience but, she has very cleverly managed the sequences with the strong followed up shots and so rap performances never looked overdone. The cinematography was very good and life in Dharavi was captured well through optimum lighting which was also handled quite well.

Music Album in terms of melody and humming will not go long way as there are no melodious songs those you would keep singing. This is also due to the fact of the underlying overall genre of which movie.

Although what is extremely commendable is the poetry written by Javed Akhtar. This man is really a master of writing such strong lines those connect straight to the hearts of the audiences. His poetry always makes the mark and does that in every single movie, when he is given the freedom. He has done the same in many past movies, “Sandese Aate Hain…” or lines narrated by Farhan Akhtar in “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara”. Now again in this movie, he has done the same magic. The scene in the train where routine life struggle is shown. These beautiful lines are put in front of you with the background voice of Ranveer Singh.

Ek Hi Raasta

Ek hi rashta jispe
chup chap sar ko jhukaye hue
Band aankhein kiye
log chalte hai saare janam

Jaante bhi nahi
sochte bhi nahi
puchte bhi nahi
Unko ye rashta
lekar kahin jayega ?
Ya Kahin bhi nahin ?

Chalte chalte kahin
ek mode aata hai
Sidhe rashte se bilkul alag
Koi deewana hi hota hai
jo udhar jata hai
Warna baaki toh
sab sidhe rashte pe hi
Ab bie saare janam chalte hai

Sir jhukaye hue
band aankhein kiye
aur yeh dukh liye
Mod jo dekha tha
uspe mudd jaate hum
Toh najaane kahan tak
pahunch paate hum

Total magical poetry. Another one was the shot when Ranveer as a chauffer driving car and girl sitting behind the car seat is crying. Beautiful lines again one more time in the voice of Ranveer Singh.

Doori

अब देखो तो हम पास हैं लेकिन सोचो कितनी दूरी है अब कैसी ये मजबूरी है अब सोचो कितनी दूरी है

Ranveer has rocked in the playback singing area as well in addition to giving his voice to the above two poetry; he also sang the most liked one – “Apna time aayega” meticulously.

Overall this movie will be lauded and remembered as another good work done by Zoya Akhtar in the direction and Ranveer n Alia in the acting department. Top notch and high class.

MUST WATCH !!!! for all the ones those who want or trying to live their dream and have somewhere inside their heart a voice that says – “Apna Time Aayega”.
